80,000 spectators turned out in Assen (NL) at the Gamma Racing Day to witness the fourth round of the Formula Renault 1.6 Series.
The dusty conditions created difficulties in the warm-up, however, I still managed to finish 6th place in both practice laps respectively. The team made some changes to the set-up which would be to my benefit later on in the day.
I finished an impressive 4th and 3rd place in the first and second qualifying rounds and I knew from this moment on that I would be destined for success on the podium.
Fully motivated, I prepared myself for the race and was raring to go. After a positive start, I soon got blocked in by another driver and couldn’t make a comfortable manoeuvre due to a second car also blocking me in from the side. Unfortunately, I fell back into 6th place on the track but worked hard to finish the race in 5th.
I started the second race in good form, overtaking my teammate Anton De Pasquale in the first corner. However, after holding my position in 2nd place for a number of laps, Anton returned the favour, overtaking me and leaving me to finish just behind him in 3rd place. It was an exciting race which ended in points on the board for both of us and us standing side-by-side at the ceremony.
